Don't really know about better, but this would solve a lion's share of problems (in a development sense), because since you're playing as one character, the other's POV will simply have an already predetermined storyline/background.
Wow, there needs to be a conversation about the objectification of Ian in this game. Lena doesn't even see him as a person, but as an "it". And Holly as his girlfriend won't even defend him.
You think that's what it means?? I don't. Lena has been asking Molly how it's going with Ian and suggesting she needs to be assertive in telling him what she wants, and suggested to Molly that she confess her love for Ian. 'The necklace or him?' question is entirely appropriate as Lena is (in my game) rooting for them to be an official couple and she knows Molly really likes Ian. Holly hasn't quite said 'I love him' to Lena, and Lena suspects is it heading in that direction.
So given that context, do you still find offense there?
